Swelling (oedema) management in the residual limb (or stump) is an important goal for any amputee after amputation surgery.
Reducing swelling quickly is associated with reduced stump pain, reduced phantom limb pain, earlier wound healing and earlier time to your first prosthetic limb.
A shrinker sock is a compressive stocking specifically designed for the stump and is used to actively control swelling of the stump.
Once a stump has thought to have ‘shrunk’ and reached its ‘mature’ volume, the shrinker sock is worn to maintain a persons stump volume to make it easier to fit your prosthetic limb.
At Amputee Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation, we stock a selection of Ossur® below-knee and above-knee shrinker socks in a range of sizes and lengths.
For NDIS clients, shrinker socks can be funded under their Low Cost Disability-Related Health Consumables budget (03_040000919_0103_1_1)
Amputee Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation can provide shrinker socks to our clients and can deliver to new clients.
